Welcome Friends
Home Fellowship Groups
Everyone is encouraged to become part of a HFG to find support and develop friendships with other believers, while learning to apply God’s Word through discussion and serving one another, the church, and the community. The goal of small groups are to help one another “hold fast the confession of our hope” and to “consider how to stir up one another to love and good works...encouraging one another” (Heb. 10:23-25). Groups meet off-site and choose a day, time, and place that works for their group.
FAQs for Small Groups (H.F.G)
What is a Home Fellowship Group?
Home Fellowship Groups (HFGs) are a voluntary, intentional gathering of about 6 to 12 people, meeting together with the shared goal of mutual Christian edification and fellowship.
What is the Purpose of a Home Fellowship Group?
There are three goals of a HFG and they are mentioned at the beginning of every meeting:
1. Grow in our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Grow in our relationship with each other.
3. Grow in number of members and leaders and multiply the group.
Why should I join a HFG?
We want our members to experience fellowship and contribute with the effort to evangelize our community through small groups that meet in homes throughout the week.
How will the group leaders address controversial issues?
We will not address these issues in a small group setting. HFGs are for fellowship and edification and to serve as a bridge into the kingdom of God. Each leader will present the same topic as the other HFG leaders and the topics will be supplied by the Pastor or Small Groups Administrator.
As a member of the church, do I have to join a group?
There is no obligation to do so but Small Groups are an integral part of the vision and mission of our church and we encourage everyone to participate.
What is the biblical foundation for HFGs?
The biblical foundation goes all the way back to the Old Testament in Israel. In Exodus 18:25, Moses distributed the people in small groups. Also, Israel was grouped as a nation, tribes, families and households. In the New Testament, we see that model again in the Early Church and Jesus himself is our greatest example of a small group leader.
Acts 5:42 “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”
Acts 2:46 “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.”
What should I expect when I attend a small group?
Most of all, you will feel welcome and accepted. A small group is an extension of the church. It is where life-change happens and godly relationships are made.
More importantly, you will grow in faith and Christ-likeness. Members of a small group share their joys and bear one another’s burdens.
How do I know which group to join?
You can pick a group based on your schedule, location or relationship with the group members. If you don’t know what group would work best for you, we would love to help you out. Please contact the Small Group Pastor.
Will I be expected to stay in the group I join “forever?”
No. You have the freedom to join another group as your needs change, or your schedule changes.
Do you have to be a member of PineView Church to be in a group?
No. Small Groups are an extension of the church, we welcome everyone.
Can we bring our kids with us?
Each group is different. Some groups have accommodations for children and some groups do not. If you would like to be placed in a group that can accommodate children, just let us know and we will look into small group opportunities that can meet your need.
What does a typical HFG meeting look like?
The small group typically meets in the home of one of the members. The group begins with a social time which includes light snacks or a meal, a few worship songs, an edification topic with discussion questions, and then ends with prayer.
How often does a Small Group meet?
Our groups generally meet 2 - 4 times a month on a predictable day and time (i.e., Fridays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.)
How long does a typical Small Group stay together?
Our groups are ongoing. That is, they don't do a particular study and then disband. One of the goals of the group is to grow in number and in leaders and multiply. Once a group grows larger than 12-14 people the group is encouraged to multiply in to two groups.
Can I start my own group?
We love it when people are interested in hosting a group of their own. For more information about leading, please speak to our Pastor. We’d love to help you get a group started!
How do I get into a group?
Our Home Fellowship Groups directory provides our group leader’s contact information, meeting days and times and general location of meetings. You can either contact any leader in our directory through this webpage or you can contact the Home Fellowship Group Pastor.
